Snyders

Frans Snyders (1579 - 1657), or Snijders, was a Flemish painter of wildlife and still lifes. Snyders was born and died in Antwerp. His parents owned a restaurant in Antwerp frequented by the artistic community. There are records of him being a pupil of Pieter Brueghel the Young in 1592/1593. He later received training from Hendrick van Balen, the first teacher of Antoon van Dyck. It was a friend of Van Dyck’s who painted Snyders and his wife on more than one occasion. (The Collection of Frick, Kassel etc).
